Cancer Screening

Smears - Appointments should be booked with the practice nurses. Under current NHS guidance, patients aged 25–64 are invited for cervical screening every 5 years. If you are 65 or over, you will only be invited if you have not been screened since age 50 or have had a recent abnormal result. If you have any symptoms such as unusual bleeding, discharge or pain, please contact the surgery rather than waiting for your invitation.

Bowel Cancer – All eligible patients are invited to carry out a faecal immunochemical test (Fit) as per the national bowel screening schedule.. Please follow the instructions on the home test kit.

Breast Screening – All women aged between 50-70 years are automatically invited for breast cancer screening with scan called a mammogram. patients over the age of 70 can self refer for mammograms as they will no longer be automatically invited.

All patients falling in the above category are strongly encouraged to have these Free NHS funded screening tests. This aides early diagnosis and treatment. Contact us if you need further advice.
